FAQs

What about bottling beer? How does that work?

For beer, you come back to Avalon Cottage after two to three weeks and bottle your beer. You call 24 hrs.ahead for a reservation and we'll have your beer filtered, carbonated and ready to be bottled. You can bring your own bottles, or buy some from us, or, maybe you would like to can some or all your beer. They will need to be rinsed and sterlized, then you're ready to go. Bottling takes about one hour per batch.

How long should I age my beer before drinking it?

Your beer is ready to be consumed as soon as it's in your bottles — though we ask that you wait til you get home! Beer does not need to be aged, although it can continue to improve for several weeks. As we do not use any Preservatives, beer should be consumed in 2-3 months as the yeast will eventually begin to re-ferment.

What about bottling wine?

Bottling your wine is a similar process to beer. You bring your own wine bottles, or we can provide them. They'll need to be rinsed and sterilized. Then we'll show you how to use our automatic fillers and corker and apply your complimentary personalized lables.

Why don't I recognize all the types of wines you offer and what if I don't know what I like?

Many commercially available wines have protection for their names and in order for us to offer similar wines our industry have had to use alternate names for the same product. If you don't know what you like we can usually determine through questions and discussion what you would enjoy.

What is the difference between a cooler and a cider?

The difference between coolers and ciders is the base we start with. Coolers are made with a grape wine base and result in a beverage of approx 6% alcohol while ciders start with an apple wine base and result in a beverage of approx 5% alcohol and are slightly drier in taste.
